What Is the URISE Method™? A Different Way to Think About Self-Growth and Change

Updated: Jul 17

If you've spent any real time trying to change your life — your relationships, your confidence, your sense of direction — you've probably already absorbed most of the standard advice. Set better goals. Think more positively. Build better habits. Work harder on yourself.

And you've probably also discovered something frustrating: that advice produces results for a while, and then quietly stops working. You're back where you started, just more tired and more skeptical that real change is even possible for you.

I lived that frustration for years before I understood why it kept happening. And what I eventually built — partly from my own healing, partly from deep study of how people actually change — is something I call the URISE Method™. I want to walk you through what it actually is, because I think understanding it will help you make sense of why so much of what you've already tried hasn't stuck.

Why I Built This in the First Place

For a long time, I did everything "right." I read the books. I did the mindset work. I stayed positive. I pushed through.

And my life didn't change in any meaningful way. Not my relationships, not my health, not the deeper sense that something wasn't quite aligned.

What I eventually discovered — through my own experience and years of study afterward — is that most personal development only addresses the surface. It works with your thoughts and your behavior, while leaving the deeper layers untouched: the emotional patterns, the beliefs formed long before you could question them, the internal state you're operating from day to day.

URISE™ was built to address all of it — not just one layer, but the whole system. It stands for five stages: Uncover, Release, Interrupt, Shift, Embody. Each one builds on the last, although the process isn’t always linear. And together, they create a different kind of change than most approaches offer — change that truly holds.

Infographic titled The URISE Method™ shows five colored steps: Uncover, Release, Interrupt, Shift, and Embody with icons.

The Core Idea Underneath URISE Method™

Before I walk through each stage, I want to share the idea that the whole method is built on, because it changes how you see everything else.

You don't get what you want. You get what you're a match for.

That might sound strange at first, so let me explain what I mean. Your daily experience — the relationships you attract, the opportunities you notice, the way you respond to stress, the ceiling on what feels possible for you — isn't primarily determined by your goals or your effort. It's shaped by three things working together underneath your conscious awareness: your mind, your emotions, and your energy.

Your mind holds the beliefs about what's possible for you — quietly setting limits you may not even know are there. Your emotions shape your daily reactions, decisions, and behavior, often more powerfully than logic does. And the state you're living in — depleted or resourced, anxious, or grounded — influences what you notice, what you attract, and what you allow into your life.

When those three things are out of alignment with what you actually want, no amount of strategy fixes it. You can have the perfect plan and still not move forward, because the plan isn't the part that's misaligned. You are — or rather, the patterns running underneath you are.

This is why you can do everything "right" and still feel stuck. The problem was never your effort. It's what's been running underneath it.

The Five Stages of URISE Method™

Uncover: The first stage is about seeing clearly. Before anything can shift, you have to identify the patterns, triggers, and beliefs that have actually been driving your experience — many of which have been operating completely outside your awareness.

This is harder than it sounds, because by definition, hidden patterns don't announce themselves. They feel like "just how things are." The anxiety that always shows up before certain conversations. The way you always end up in the same kind of relationship dynamic. The ceiling that always seems to appear right when things start going well.

Uncovering means getting curious about those patterns instead of just living inside them. Asking: what is actually happening here? What do I keep telling myself in this situation? Where have I seen this exact feeling before?

Awareness is where everything begins. You cannot change what you cannot see — and most people have never been taught how to look.

Release: Once a pattern becomes visible, the next stage is letting go of what's been keeping it in place: limiting beliefs, old stories, self-doubt, and the emotional residue that's been stored from past experiences that were never fully processed.

This is a different kind of work than positive thinking. You can't think your way past an old belief or an unprocessed emotional experience — you have to actually process it. That might mean finally feeling something you've been pushing down for years. It might mean recognizing a belief you formed long ago, as an example” "I have to earn love," "if someone leaves, I wasn't enough," "I'm only as good as my last success" — and consciously letting it go instead of continuing to live from it without question.

This stage often brings real relief. People describe it as feeling lighter, clearer, like something heavy has finally been set down.

Interrupt: Old patterns don't disappear just because you've seen them and started to release the weight behind them. They're automatic — wired into your nervous system through repetition. Interrupting them means catching yourself in the moment they try to run, and consciously choosing something different.

This is the stage where you move from reactive habits — the ones that happen

before you've even decided anything — to deliberate, empowered choices. It's where the actual rewiring happens, because every time you interrupt the old pattern and respond differently, you weaken its grip and start building a new one.

This stage takes practice. Patterns that took years to form don't dissolve in a day. But every interruption matters. The cycle breaks a little more each time, and you start to feel your power coming back.

Gold banner with lightbulb icon and text: Shift; Elevate and create new emotional and mental patterns

Shift: With the old pattern interrupted, there's now room to actively shift your emotional and energetic state — to elevate it toward what you actually want rather than what you've been used to.

This is where you intentionally work with your internal state: your mood, your energy, your perspective. Not by forcing positivity, but by genuinely tending to what you're carrying — your stress, your nervous system, your emotional baseline — so that you're meeting your life from a fuller place rather than a depleted one.

When your internal state shifts, you start to notice things you didn't notice before. Opportunities that were always there but invisible to a depleted, anxious state start to become visible. Your energy itself becomes different — and people, situations, and possibilities respond to that difference.

Brown gradient banner with sparkles and text: Embody, Step into a more aligned and empowered version of yourself

Embody: The final stage is where the new version of you stops being an idea and starts being who you really are.

Embodiment means stepping fully into your next-level identity — not performing it, not trying to convince yourself of it, but actually living from it. It shows up in how you carry yourself, how you make decisions, what you tolerate and what you no longer do, how you show up in your relationships and your work.

This is the difference between knowing something and becoming someone. You don't just change what you think. You become a different person living a different life — because the patterns underneath have actually shifted, not just the surface behavior.

Why This Is Different From "Just Thinking Positive"

If you've tried mindset work before and found that it didn't create the change you hoped for, this is likely why: mindset work generally stays at the level of thought. It asks you to reframe, to affirm, to believe differently — without addressing the emotional and energetic layers that are actually driving your experience underneath those thoughts.

The URISE Method™ doesn't skip the thinking layer, but it doesn't stop there either. It works with the whole system — mind, emotion, and energy together — because that's how human beings actually function. We are not just thinking creatures who occasionally have feelings. We are emotional, energetic beings who also happen to think. When you only address the thinking part, you're working with maybe a third of what's actually running you.

This is also why the process starts off as sequential. You can't embody a new identity you haven't actually built, and you can't build it on top of patterns you haven't released. Each stage creates the conditions for the next one to actually hold. The process isn’t completely linear; as you grow, you find more to release and shift.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

I want to make this concrete, because frameworks can sound abstract until you see them in motion.

Imagine someone who keeps finding herself in relationships where she over-gives and feels chronically unappreciated. Using a thinking-only approach, she might tell herself: "I need better boundaries" and try to implement boundary scripts. That can help temporarily, but if the underlying pattern isn't addressed, the same dynamic tends to resurface in a new relationship.

Working through the URISE Method™ looks different. She uncovers that this pattern traces back to an early belief that love has to be earned through giving. She releases the old emotional weight connected to that belief — including grief she'd never let herself feel about not having been fully seen for who she was, not just what she did. She interrupts the automatic impulse to over-give the next time it shows up, choosing instead to pause and ask what she really wants. She shifts her internal state, moving out of the anxious urgency that used to drive her giving and into something calmer and more grounded. And over time, she embodies a new way of being in relationships — one where she gives from fullness rather than fear, and where she expects reciprocity rather than hoping for it.

That's not a mindset shift. That's a different person – her higher self, showing up in her relationships. And that's what URISE Method™ is designed to create.

Where to Begin

You don't need to do all five stages perfectly or all at once. In fact, most meaningful change starts simply with the first stage: uncovering. Getting curious about a pattern you've been living inside without fully seeing.

Pick one area of your life that feels "sticky" — a relationship dynamic, a recurring frustration, a place where you keep ending up despite your best intentions. And just start asking: what's running underneath this? Not to fix it immediately, but to see it clearly.

That's where every real shift begins.

If This Resonated…

If you've been doing the work — the mindset shifts, the affirmations, the effort — and still find yourself in the same patterns, this is likely why: you've been working at the level of thought, while the real shift needed to happen somewhere deeper.

My free guide, "Why You Still Feel Stuck," walks through these hidden blocks in more depth and gives you a genuine starting point for seeing what's been running your experience.

Download "Why You Still Feel Stuck" — it's free, and it's where this work begins.

You don't need more effort. You need a deeper shift. And that shift is available to you.
